This Fall, Namsan Unveils the Korean Forest Garden – A New Urban Oasis of Tradition, Nature, and Relaxation
2025 . 08 . 02
The Namsan Outdoor Botanical Garden, one of Seoul’s iconic green spaces, will be reborn this fall as the “Korean Forest Garden,” a modern reinterpretation of Korean aesthetics and garden culture.
For bleisure travelers planning to visit Seoul in October, this is a must-know destination. Namsan is already a symbolic healing spot in the city, but the newly unveiled Korean Forest Garden will offer a space where tradition, nature, and relaxation come together. Even with a short break after business meetings, you can join locals in experiencing Korean seasonal beauty and garden culture in this unique setting.
Seoul Metropolitan Government began construction in May and announced that the garden will open to locals and bleisure travelers in October.
The Korean Forest Garden spans 30,000㎡ and consists of 4 themes and 14 gardens: Tradition & Culture, Nature & Ecology, Leisure & Relaxation, and Open Charm Gardens. While preserving the original terrain and trees as much as possible, the design follows the natural flow rather than relying on artificial landscaping, creating a garden where visitors can fully appreciate Korea’s natural beauty throughout the seasons. [💡 Why it’s perfect for bleisure travelers]
• An urban healing spot where you can experience Seoul’s history, culture, and nature all at once
• A stroll with locals while exploring Korea’s unique garden culture and ecology
• A relaxing retreat in the city, perfect for a quick refresh even with a tight schedule
[✨ Four Themes, Fourteen Gardens – Discover a New Face of Namsan]

1. Tradition & Culture Forest Garden
Reflecting Korean traditional values and the way of life that harmonizes with nature.
• Jidangwon: A serene space with a natural pond, bamboo grove, and ecological wetlands
• Yeongjiwon: A traditional garden featuring crape myrtle trees and a pond
• Mugunghwa Garden: A scenic garden with views of Seoul’s skyline and vibrant hibiscus flowers

2. Nature & Ecology Forest Garden
• A place to feel the breath of nature and the changing seasons in the heart of the city.
• Azalea Hill & Plum Garden: Seasonal landscapes along vertical walking paths
• Moss Garden: A pristine garden resembling Jeju’s Gotjawal forest
• Bamboo Grove: A tranquil spot to feel the sound of nature
• Pine Grove: Preserved pine clusters with walking trails beneath

3. Leisure & Relaxation Forest Garden
• A space of calm and culture to revitalize your day.
• Pine Yard: A welcoming resting spot at the start of the Namsan trail
• Ginkgo Court: A meditative and relaxing space with wooden decks and benches beneath the ginkgo trees
• Namsan Maru Observatory: A photogenic spot where Namsan’s forest meets the Seoul city skyline

4. Open Charm Garden
A welcoming space at the entrance of the Korean Forest Garden.
• Main Entrance Plaza & Small Entrances: Greeted by zelkova trees, natural stone benches, and wooden seating areas
[🌱 Beyond Landscaping – An Ecological Rebirth]
The key to this project is restoring the degraded ecological functions of the overgrown garden—not through simple replanting, but through ecological restructuring that revives the natural flow of light and wind. Each area has been carefully planted with seasonal and visually harmonious vegetation, enhancing both natural beauty and Korean identity.
Especially noteworthy are the Barefoot Health Trails, designed to stimulate the soles of your feet and improve blood circulation as you walk. This is not just a simple path but a healing trail where you can feel the texture of the forest beneath your feet, helping both body and mind unwind—a fresh and unique experience for bleisure travelers visiting Seoul after a busy day of meetings.
A place where tradition and nature meet in the heart of the city, the Korean Forest Garden in Namsan is the ultimate healing spot for bleisure travelers who want to balance business with meaningful relaxation.
