This is one of Seoul’s signature summer festivals where both locals and visitors can enjoy together. This year, it will be held under the theme “Dive into Gwangbok” to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Gwangbok.

“Gwangbok” refers to Korea’s liberation on August 15, 1945, marking the end of Japanese colonial rule and the restoration of the nation’s independence and freedom. In Korea, this day is called Gwangbokjeol (Liberation Day) and remains a meaningful occasion when people reflect on the values of freedom and peace.

This festival goes beyond a simple water playground in the city center. It’s a unique chance to experience both the historical significance and the vibrant energy of Seoul at Gwanghwamun Square, together with Seoul locals. As it coincides with the 80th anniversary of liberation, visitors can naturally learn about and appreciate the values of freedom and peace cherished by Korean society.

At Gwanghwamun Square, you’ll find two 20-meter swimming pools and two water slides of varying heights for an exciting aquatic adventure. A newly created sand playground ‘Sand Beach’ and rest areas also offer casual programs where anyone can relax and enjoy.
